Blueberry Compote

You can’t really go wrong with a good simple compote. While it’s great on its own it’s even better when added to desserts, breads, on top of yogurt or ice cream. In all honesty whatever your heart desires to put it on i say go for it. I personally just recently made some to add to a blueberry cream cheese glaze that went on top of a blueberry lemon bundt cake. It was simply delicious, I will be sharing the recipe for the bundt cake soon so keep a look out for that.

A compote is made with 4 simple commonly used ingredients that you more than likely already have in your home. All you need is water, sugar, a lemon and your fruit of choice in this case blueberries. It’s actually how you make jams, jellies, fruit spreads, fruit syrups and of course compotes. Only thing that differs really from each recipe is the ratio of water, sugar and fruit. I’ve made a really good strawberry jam i plan to share.

Now let’s just get right into this ridiculously easy recipe.

*add lemon to taste, more for a more tangy compote and less for a sweeter version.

See it was really that easy, some suggestions that you may want to try is you can substitute the sugar with maple syrup or honey for a more naturally sweetened compote. Even sugars such as brown sugar, coconut sugar, and cane sugar work. Doing so however, may also affect the flavor and thickness of the compote.

Try it with many different fruits and berries and let me know how it turns out. Enjoy.
